Founded in 2007, "Weekend Theater" is sponsored by Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, and funded by Shenzhen Special Fund for the Development of Publicity and Cultural Undertakings and organized by the Municipal Cultural Center.

Creative December was founded in 2005 and is an annual comprehensive city culture event in Shenzhen. It is an indispensable element of building a symbol of Shenzhen's urban image and building a cultural brand system based on the advanced international cities.

Since its establishment in 2013, the Nanshan Pop Music Festival has been held by the Nanshan District Government in April every year. So far, it has been successfully held for eight consecutive years, and has been broadcast by CCTV, Shenzhen TV, as well as reported by national, provincial, municipal and mainstream media. "Nanshan Pop Music Festival" has been included in the "Shenzhen Urban Culture Menu" by the Shenzhen Municipal Government since 2016, and has become a well-known music event in the whole province and even the whole country.

The China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) is co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee (National Press and Publication Administration, State Copyright Bureau and China Film Administration), the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, the State Administration of Radio and Television, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Guangdong Provincial Government, and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

​The first Shenzhen Fashion Week raised its curtain at the OCT Harbor in Nanshan District, Shenzhen on March 19, 2015, gathering top fashion designers from home and abroad.

This international celebration of photography is jointly held by the China Photographers Association and the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The annual event is a comprehensive exhibition based on the theme of urbanism, as well as an international platform for the exchange of photographic art, and a new cultural calling card that Shenzhen is striving to build.

The Shenzhen Reading Month is a general public reading event initiated in 2000 by the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government. It is held annually from November 1 to 30, and this year marks the 22nd Shenzhen Reading Month.

Shenzhen Design Week (SZDW), an annual April event since 2017, is an international design festival hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and organized by the Shenzhen International Culture Exchange Association, with the Shenzhen Culture, Creativity & Design Association (SCCDA) serving as secretariat.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (SZHK Biennale) is a biennial permanent international cultural event hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It was inaugurated in 2005 and Hong Kong joined in co-hosting it in 2007. It has evolved into a unique model of "one exhibition in two cities with interactive activities." It is considered the world's only biennale to focus specifically on urbanism and urbanization.
